Award to No.10 (IA) Cdo.6 Troop (Polish)

Award of the Virtuti Militari Medal 5th Class to No.6 Troop (Polish) No.10 (IA) Commando
At a special ceremony at the Polish Institute in London, on Sunday, lst October last (1989), General K. Rudnicki presented the above medal to Leo Licht (6 Tp l0 IA Cdo) as President of the Polish Commandos. Over eighty people were in attendance at the presentation, many of whom were members of 6 Troop. A number of important members of the Polish community were also in attendance. Everyone present was especially pleased to welcome Mrs. Sheena Lister and her family. Mrs. Lister is, of course the widow of Lt. Col. Dudley Lister, M.C., O.C. of 10 Cdo.

The Medal is kept at the Museum of General Sikorski at 20, Princes Gate, South Kensington, London, S.W.7, and is on show to the public.

After the ceremony, the guests proceeded to the Polish Air Force Club, where a splendid luncheon was provided. Leo Licht presided during the speeches which followed the traditional Polish fare. A toast to the Eminent President of the Polish Government in exile was proposed by Mrs. Fiona Licht. Among other toasts was one to No. 6 Tp. 10 IA Commando, proposed by Lt.Col. Godfrey Franks, TD., who outlined the part played by 6 Troop during the war. The reply to this toast came from Major S. Zalewski, who had travelled from his home in the United States to be present. A further toast to 10 IA Commando was raised by Ian Dear, who, it will be remembered, wrote the book " 10 Commando ", some time ago. The response came from Dr. John Coates, DSO., also of 10 Commando.

It is felt that all present would like to offer thanks to Leo Licht and his good lady for all the hard work that they put into this auspicious occasion to ensure that a splendid day was enjoyed by all.
