William Foster SAS
Sergeant William Foster from Workington was taken prisoner of war and executed whilst serving with the 2nd Special Air Service Regiment.
  • 6 October 1933 attested into the Royal Artillery.
  • 27 December 1941 (Bombardier) (No.3 Commando) wounded during the the Vaagso raid.
  • June 1942 (Lance Sergeant) No.3 Commando 4 Troop
  • 18/19 August 1942  embarked at Newhaven for the Dieppe raid.
  • 16 February 1943 posted to 62 Commando (SSRF) whilst in North Africa,
  • 13 May 1943 'interposted' to the 2nd SAS on its formation.
