Private William Coates was reported missing 30 Novemeber 1942 during operations in North Africa, later presumed died of wounds. He has no known grave. Son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Coates, of Tean, Stoke-on-Trent.
His Commando was engaged in an assault on one of a line of flat topped hills known as Green Hill which was held by the enemy and covered the road and railway running from Tabarka to Mateur.
