Marine William Carter, from Preston, died during operations in Holland. Son of Richard and Catherine Carter, of Preston, Lancashire [1][ia]
William Carter, an apprentice joiner and former pupil of  Deepdale Council School, joined the Royal Marines from the Home Guard in 1942 and served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. He was previously wounded at Normandy on D Day [2].
