Lieutenant Pienaar, seconded to No 3 Commando from the South African Forces, died during operations at Agnone and the bridge at Malati (3 Commando Bridge). He had been taken prisoner during the action, but with a group of others managed to escape thier captors. Lieutenant Pienaar was shot and killed during this escape. Son of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Pienaar, of Caledon, Cape Province, South Africa.
