Recommendation
"Mne. Mellor, throughout the period of the Unit's fighting in Burma, has shown himself a brave, reliable and resourceful, fighter.
Whilst at Kangaw he displayed very great courage and disregard for his personal safety and was directly responsible for saving the lives of a number of Indian soldiers.
He went forward himself under heavy fire and repeated shelling and carried in these men. On the fourth attempt he was severely wounded in the head.
He was ordered by his Officer to remain where he was. He refused and managed to collect two more before loss of blood stopped further attempts.
This man's leadership and example in a critical situation did more than all else to hold a position of eight men , all of whom were wounded" [2].
