Captain Michael Woyevodsky was captured at Catania, Sicily, on the 14th June 1943. On the 19th September 1943, whilst in transit to Germany, he escaped from the train South of Verona together with two other Officers. They undid the wire on the sliding door of the cattle truck in which they were travelling, and jumped from the train whilst it was in motion. They then made their way South, eventually contacting British forces at Guglionese on the 18th October 1943. He was later awarded the M.C.
 
The death of Capt. Michael Woyevodsky M.C.,(3 Cdo), of Washington DC., U.S.A, was announced in Commando Association newsletter 106 issued March 1998.
