Marine Martin Findlay died during operations in Holland. At the time of his death his Commando were engaged in holding a section of the line along the Maas. 
Extract from the Brechin Advertiser 10 April 1945
"Information has been received by Mrs. M. Findlay, Chapelton of Menmuir, that their second youngest son, Royal Marine Commando Martin Findlay (22) has been killed in action. He was well known in the Stracathro district. Mr and Mrs Findlay have another son serving with the B.L.A. and one a prisoner in Japanese hands. A third was killed at Hong Kong."
