Major Mark Hammond RM, 847 Naval Air Squadron, received the Queen's Commendation for Valuable Service in Iraq during the period 19th March to 19th April 2003 [1].
On 15 December 2006 Major Hammond, a Royal Marine Chinook pilot on exchange with RAF 18(B) Squadron, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in recognition of gallant and distinguished service in Afghanistan during the rescue of casualties on 6 September 2006 [2].
