Private Leslie Matthews from Blackpool was reported missing presumed killed in action during operations at Monte Ornito and Monte Faito, Italy. He has no known grave. His name is on a marble roll of honour on Monte Ornito. A former pupil of Baines Grammar School, Poulton, he worked for the Ministry of Health before joining the Army in 1940.
