Private Leslie Matthews, from Blackpool, was reported missing presumed killed in action during operations at Monte Ornito and Monte Faito, Italy. He has no known grave. 
A former pupil of Baines Grammar School, Poulton, he worked for the Ministry of Health before joining the Army in 1940.
