Royal Ulster Rifles
Monday, January 21, 1985
Rifleman John Maginnis volunteered for the Commandos whilst serving in the Royal Ulster Rifles. He initially joined No 12 Commando and on their disbandment moved to No 6 Commando.
His son John adds the following information " Mac passed away on the 21st January 1985 at the age of 67. He was born in 1918 in Belfast and joined the RUR and then onto 6 & 12 Commando. It was a sad 3 years for our families as William Eager also a commando died in 1984 and Sam Brodison MM died in 1986. These 3 all married sisters in Titchfield where they were billeted, just 2 miles from Warsash where D. Day started from. I've always been very proud of my family history and the armed forces of this country, Macs brother Sammy Maginnis was Royal Irish Fusiliers then SAS who died in Malayasia in the 60s."
