Lieutenant Hawkard 41 Commando
Lieutenant John Hawkard died during operations at Salerno, Italy. Son of Herbert and Florence Hawkard, of Fairhaven, Lytham St. Annes, Lancashire. he had been in the Royal Marines for 16 months joining up after completing one year at Queen's College Cambridge where he was studying for the ministry. He was at Rishworth School for nine years becoming head boy. A keen rugby player he was a member of Fylde Rugby Union Club.
