Doctor John Forfar MB was commissioned into the R.A.M.C. on 21st February 1942. He was attached to the 10th Bn. Royal Marines and when it was disbanded in 1943 he became the Medical Officer for the newly designated 47RM Commando. He remained as such until the end of hostilities. In March 1945 he received both a Mention in Despatches and the Military Cross for his gallant and distinguished service. 
  • In 1983 Professor John Forfar, MC., F.R.S.E., was awarded the James Spence Medal, the British Paediatric Association's highest honour, for his outstanding contributions to the advancement of paediatrics*.
