Private John Farquhar was awarded the MM [1] in recognition of gallant and distinguished services during operations West of the Garigliano River, Italy on the night of 29/30 December 1943 [2].
 
Citation
This man was wounded in the leg during the assault on the demolished bridge position. In spite of this he carried on, attacking the enemy with grenades, and when the enemy ran away he chased them and captured two single handed. He crossed the river unaided and did not disclose the fact that he was wounded until the crossing had been completed [2].
