John Craig 2 Commando
John Craig was a Police Officer from Blackpool who volunteered for the Commandos enlisting 23 July 1942 as part of the 2nd Police Intake to the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry. Private John Craig served in 'A' Section, No.2 Sub-Section of 5 Troop. He was reported missing 13 September 1943 whilst with Rfn. A. Davies in a forward section post on Hill 321 at Vietri Sul Mare, Italy, which was overrun by the enemy for a period of 2 hours. Both were later found to be prisoners of war. On 15 April 1945 he escaped with others making their way back to American lines on 25 April 1945*.
