Killed in action or died of wounds
Marine Joe Flannagan, 'X' troop, from Gateshead, died during operations at Walcheren.

- At the time of his death his troop were providing supporting fire and cutting wire defences during an assault on a gun battery along the dunes at Westkapelle, Walcheren [Source:Professor (Capt) John Forfar MC. 47RM Cdo. 'From Omaha to the Scheldt ].
- CWGC main entry shows forename as Joe. The newspaper article above lists his first name as John.
