Lance Sergeant Iorweth Thomas, 6 Troop,  was reported missing in action in Sicily during operations at the Punta dei Malati Bridge, later renamed 3 Commando Bridge.  He was last seen soon after the withdrawal from 3 Commando Bridge, with his section, crossing the large field towards the orange groves on the left hand side of the road, on his way to take up a position on the hills.
It was later discovered that he had been taken prisoner. He was initially sent to Capua 66 and was then transferred to Stalag IVB Mühlberg, Germany. He remained there until liberated on the 17th April 1945.
