Gerry Brent (born Gunter Harry Berendt) served in 47RM Commando and No.6 Commando.
Being of Jewish faith and having escaped to the UK from his home in Berlin in 1938, he was sent to Canada on the outbreak of war classed as an enemy alien. Embarked on 4 July 1940 aboard the SS Sobiecki. The following year when given the choice he opted to return to the UK arriving on 30 June 1941. He was initially re-interned on the Isle of Man before being released on 11 May 1942 to join the Army.
7 October 1944 commissioned Second Lieutenant. Volunteered for Commando training and was then attached to 47RM Commando 'A' Troop just after Operation Infatuate at Walcheren. March 1945 posted to No.6 Commando in Germany.
28 April 1947 relinquished commission and granted honorary rank of Captain.
Post war member of the Commando Association residing Australia.
