George Messanot 10 Commando French
Sergeant Georges Messanot, 2nd Battalion Fusiliers Marins Commando, badge no.71,  was awarded the Military Medal whilst attached to No.4 Commando during operations at Flushing, Holland.
Recommendation
At Flushing on 1 Nov.'44 during the course of street fighting, this NCO and his section were held up by strong, well-sited enemy pockets of resistance.
Sgt. Messanot immediately dashed forward under heavy fire and destroyed the enemy with grenades. He then promptly broke into the position and took a number of prisoners.
By this action Sgt Messanot enabled his Troop to close with its objective and he played a conspicuous part in the final assault by his dash and determination.
