Eric Butler 3 Commando
Lance Sergeant Eric Butler, No.3 Commando, took part in Operation Chariot, the raid at St Nazaire 28 March 1942. Embarking on ML307, he was wounded and evacuated back to the UK [1][5].
  • 11 September 1943 commissioned Second Lieutenant, Worcestershire Regiment [2].
  • 21 September 1944 (Lieutenant) wounded and missing during Operation Market Garden, then prisoner of war at Oflag 9A/H, Spangenberg, until May 1945 [3][3a][3b].
  • 28 September 1953 relinquishes commission on appointment to the R.A.F. [4].
  • 1 January 1970, Flight Lieutenant, Royal Air Force Regiment, retired from service [6]
