Sergeant Eric Blyth was Mentioned in Despatches for distinguished service with 45 Commando in operations in the Radfan Area, Western Aden Protectorate, during the period 13 April to 15 October 1964 [1].
  • 1 January 1969 (Colour Sergeant) awarded British Empire Medal (Military Division) [2].
  • 1978 commended by the West Bromwich Coroner for his efforts in attempting to rescue four children in a burning house all of whom had sadly died by the time he reached them. Colour Sergeant Blythe was leading a military fire team deployed during the Fireman's strike that commenced November 1977 [3].
