Constable Ernest Griffith Mather
Ernest Griffith Mather joined the Cheshire Constabulary on 2 May 1938, collar number 96, and was posted to Altrincham. On 27 July 1942 he enlisted into the Armed Forces volunteering for the Commandos. Posted to the 2nd Police intake at the Commando Depot (Commando Basic Training Centre), Achnacarry, and then attached to No.4 Commando. Served in 1 Troop and 'A' Troop. Active service included Normandy and Walcheren. Final military rank attained Lance Sergeant. Member of the Commando Association from Wybunbury, Cheshire.
Post war police service timeline
08.10.1945 re-joined the Police Force.
28.06.1953 promoted Police Sergeant.
---.---. 1960 awarded the Police Long Service And Good Conduct Medal.
Commended on two occasions during his service for good police work. For the last three years of his service he was involved in training.
26.05.1968 retired from the force.
