Recommendation
Private Gunn has been in the LRDG for 18 months and during that time has been conspicuous for his coolness and initiative in action. In January 1943, when his patrol were in hiding near Jebel Nafusa, and were suddenly attacked by ground troops, Pte. Gunn displayed particular bravery in getting his gun into action and continuing to man it from a very exposed position in order to draw the enemy's fire to enable his patrol commander with another party to work round the enemy's flank [1a].
